My Xylophone
[First draft 3/18/15]
I’ve been out on the roads, been out to the canyons
Who could complain ‘bout the path I had chosen
Learned from the land what it meant to be free
And had my xylophone with me
Xylophone, my xylophone
Wherever I roam, it’s the sound of my home
Concert of one, but I’m never alone
I had my xylophone with me
On the move, something new I could try
Took some time out for the stars in the sky
But I rusted a bit by the shining sea
Struggled up mountains, without any relief
Whatever I hit, it was never too bad
I had my xylophone with me
Back to the view, but for two, it’s divided
Tried to complain, but my pains were misguided
Learned from the girl how much world I could see
And had my xylophone with me
Xylophone, my xylophone
Wherever I roam, it’s the sound of my heart and my home
Concert for one, and I’m never alone
I had my xylophone with me
After the road, know I’ll need to retire
I’ve played and I’ve learned and my tales will inspire
He’ll take what I taught, fill my heart to the brim
He’ll have my xylophone with him
Xylophone, my xylophone
Wherever he roams, it’s the sound of my heart and my home
Concert of one, but he’s never alone
He’ll have my xylophone with him
